The Indian team won against Nepal and qualified for the Super 4 stage of the Asia Cup 2023. As expected, India won the match against Nepal comfortably in the end. Thanks to the ground staff, the match was able to happen despite the intervention of rain in the match. There were many spells of rain throughout the match. The biggest of them was during the innings break.
Rohit Sharma won the toss and elected to bowl first. In the first few overs of the match, India was poor in the field. The likes of Shreyas Iyer, Virat Kohli, and Ishan Kishan dropped catches of the openers of Nepal. In turn, Nepal had a good start for their innings. The opening duo scored 65 runs in the powerplay overs. The impetus at the start was provided well by Kushal Bhurtel and Aasif Sheikh.
As Bhurtel was dismissed, and the mini collapse of Nepal’s innings began. From 65/1 at one stage, Nepal found themselves at 144/6. In the process, Nepal lost most of its main batters. But the contributions from the lower order batters like Gulshan Jha, Dipendra Singh, and Sompal Kami helped Nepal to score 230 runs in their innings, which was a very good effort.
Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill shine with the bat
For India, Ravindra Jadeja was the pick of the bowlers, who claimed 3/40 in his 10 overs. Siraj claimed 3 wickets and conceded 61 runs in his 9.2 overs. Mohammed Shami, Hardik Pandya, and Shardul Thakur claimed a wicket each. Kuldeep Yadav bowled an economical spell. Due to the interruption of rain, the match was reduced to 23 overs. The revised target for India was 145.
It did not seem a big challenge for the Indian opening duo of Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma, who finished the game on their own. The two batters spared no bowlers and got to their respective fifty. While Sharma scored 74 runs in 59 balls, Gill scored 67 runs in 62 balls. In the end, India won the match by 10 wickets.
