AB De Villiers gives his views on Mitchell Johnson and David Warner spat

Controversy snowballs between Australia's two biggest stars

Former South African legend AB De Villiers recently took to YouTube to give his views on the latest controversy. Mitchell Johnson’s latest comments on David Warner have created a huge storm in the media.

David Warner is set to retire from Test Cricket and former teammate Mitchell Johnson gave a rather forthright view. The former pacer raked up the old “Sand-paper” gate which saw David Warner get banned for a year.

Legendary South African batter AB De Villiers isn’t happy with the spat that is taking place in Australian cricket right now. The 39-year-old spoke about his displeasure after Mitchell Johnson’s latest comments on David Warner.

Speaking on his YouTube Channel, ABD said “I just don’t like this public conversation between the two of them. Just pick up the phone and sort it out. Ask the guy let’s go out for a cold drink and sort the issues out. I feel there are scars from the dressing room but don’t let the world get in on this”

Mitchell Johnson had questioned why David Warner gets to choose his retirement despite being embroiled in a huge controversy. The entire incident took place during the 2018 tour of South Africa. The series incidentally was AB De Villiers’ final act in international cricket.

The 39-year-old also went on to say “They have played a lot of cricket together and shared the dressing room a lot. So maybe that’s where it started. Maybe Mitchell Johnson felt that ‘You’re a part of a World Cup winning squad and now this send-off. You’re getting away with a lot that needs to be talked about.’ I feel there’s a lot still left to come out,”

The former South Africa legend finished by saying “I have played many cricket games with Warner and on the field, he can be brutal. Off the field, he is a gentle giant, he is a nice guy. Something switches on the field just like Dale Steyn. I have played with Davey at Delhi Daredevils and maybe there is a bit of short fuse sometimes. Maybe his and Johnson’s short fuse collided”

The Australian broadcasters have removed Mitchell Johnson from the commentary panel for the upcoming Pakistan series. Australia is set to play three test matches with the first game to be played in Johnson’s home ground in Perth on the 14th of December.
