Ahead of the upcoming IPL auction in 2024, former South African legend AB de Villiers picked his life-changing moment. De Villiers said that playing for Royal Challengers Bangalore was his life-changing moment. He also praised the team management for supporting him in the early days.

Mr. 360 was answering a question on his YouTube channel where he spoke about a life-changing moment in his career. He said, “Getting picked by RCB for IPL was life-changing for me.” It’s worth noting that De Villiers has played for RCB since 2011 when the team bought him in an IPL auction for a whopping sum of INR 11 crore.

In his illustrious IPL career, De Villiers has played 184 matches for Royal Challengers Bangalore. He has scored 5162 runs at an average of 39.71 and a strike rate of 151.69. In between, he has smacked four-half centuries and three centuries, including a 133-run knock against the Mumbai Indians in Wankhede Stadium.

“I would be worried,” AB de Villiers explains RCB’s weakness

However, after the announcement of the retention list, a former South African legend expressed his disappointment in some decisions made by RCB. While analysing the squad, De Villiers said that the team’s bowling is a concern. He said, “It is the area where I would be worried. Obviously, there is Mohammed Siraj there, Reece Topley, and some experience there, but if you see the released players list, they let go of Wanindu Hasaranga, Harshal Patel, and Josh Hazlewood.”

“Those three have won them a lot of games in the last couple of seasons, especially Hazlewood; he had just this way of controlling that bowling lineup. It has been a well-known fact that RCB’s bowling has been an area of weakness over the years. Yes, the batters also made a mess at times, but you need to play as a team. You need to gel together and understand each other.”

“More often than not, there has been this feeling of making silly mistakes, not getting the discipline right, and not doing the basics well under pressure. We know how difficult it is to bowl at the Chinnaswamy  Stadium, he concludes. It’s worth noting that RCB went for an overhaul in the bowling unit after releasing players like Josh Hazelwood, Wanindu Hasranga, and Harshal Patel.
