Steve Smith has set the Big Bash League (BBL) alight with his superlative hitting in the tournament and back-to-back hundreds. His first hundred came against the Adelaide Strikers where he scored 101 off 56 balls with five fours and seven sixes. He helped the Sixers set up a wonderful total of 203-5 in their 20 overs. Then the Sixers bowlers bowled out Strikers for just 144 to get a clinical 59-run win.

A few days later Smith repeated the feat in the BBL and this time against Sydney Thunder. In a game which was reduced to 19 overs due to rain, he entertained the crowd at the Sydney Cricket Ground with a masterful innings of 125 off 66 balls with five fours and nine sixes to help his side make a mammoth total of 187-2 in 19 overs.  The Sixers were all over the Thunder as they bundled them out for just 62 runs. Smith’s T20 heroics caught the attention of Aaron Finch.

Sixers march on to the second place on the points table

Finch took to Twitter to put out a special message to Smith on his consecutive hundreds in the BBL. “Not a bad player, this young Smith kid from Sydney, I think he’ll have a big future,” wrote Finch. Smith’s daredevilry with the bat has helped the Sixers to get to second spot on the points table. They have got 17 points from 12 games. The Perth Scorchers are at numero uno at the moment with 20 points from 13 matches.

The BBL has been a wonderful event to watch for the cricket-loving public in Australia. The availability of the Australian stars after the culmination of the Test series against South Africa have given the Australian fans another reason to watch the league. Generally, the cream of Australian cricket are not available during the BBL because the tournament coincides with Australia’s International commitments.

But this year since the big names have come in and played the BBL after the South Africa Test series was done. This has helped fans to watch their favourite Australian players play. David Warner has played for Sydney Thunder; Smith has played for the Sixers and Marnus Labuschagne and Usman Khawaja have played for the Brisbane Heat which has added more colour to the tournament.
