Twitter is currently going through a turbulent time after popular businessman Elon Musk took over the company. The billionaire who owns Tesla and SpaceX took over the social media platform Twitter on October 27th 2022 and enforced strict policies at the office.
Since the $44 Billion deal, Musk’s unconventional running of the company has brought Twitter into the bigger limelight. The 51-year-old has gone on a firing tirade at the company having fired a significant number of employees from the company.
Given the instability at Twitter, many are expecting the social media website to fail in the coming weeks. Former England cricketer Michael Vaughan who is quite popular at Twitter must have seen a number of hashtags about Twitter such as #Goodbytwitter and #Twittertakeover since he made a Tweet on the topic. The 48-year-old wrote, “In cricketing terms what’s happening to Twitter please?”
Soon many of his 1.5 million followers started to comment on the Tweet with their very own understanding of the situation and comparing it to cricket. Some wrote, “Hit wicket’, while some suggested it to be a ‘retired hurt.”
One user by the name of L however had quite an insightful comment wherein he suggested, “Piers Morgan has become head coach of the English Cricket team and has sacked Stokes, Root, Buttler, Woakes, Anderson, Broad, the coaches and the tea lady. Got their 2nd ODI on Sunday, remains to be seen how they’ll go.”
Another by the name of Sumit Agarwal replied with a more realistic analogy saying, “The captain wants to make radical changes to the team which is opposed by the current players. Captain makes the changes nevertheless. All the players announce retirement. Captain trying to persuade star players to stay so that he can build the team around those star players.”
Here’s how users used the cricket analogy for the current Twitter situation:

Your team has suddenly only got 3 players and you're going to have to send out a wicketkeeper and a substitute fielder as opening batsmen.

Currently, many of Twitter employees are resigning following Elon Musk’s ‘ultimatum’ to commit to a ‘hardcore’ work environment.
“Entire teams representing critical infrastructure are voluntarily departing the company, leaving the company at serious risk of being able to recover. We are skilled professionals with lots of options, so Elon has given us no reasons to stay and many to leave,” one Twitter engineer had said.
