In the early hours of Tuesday, Mumbai legend Kieron Pollard announced his retirement from the Indian T20 League. Many cricket fans were shocked to learn one of the best T20 players is retiring and won’t be seen taking to the field in Indian T20 League 2022.
While many were sad seeing Pollard retire from the Indian T20 League, there was one set of fans that were of a differing opinion. Pollard’s retirement was seen being celebrated by Chennai fans on Twitter.
All of this happiness is the result of Pollard ruining Chennai’s chances of winning the trophy on innumerable occasions. When it comes to the actual numbers, Pollard has made 636 runs in 25 innings against Chennai. In those matches, he has played with an average of 35.33 and a sensational strike rate of 169.60. In those matches, the West Indies player hit 46 fours and a massive 47 sixes.
Additionally, the right-hand batter has scored 4 half-centuries against the MS Dhoni-led Chennai side, all of which came as match-winning knocks. His best knock against Chennai came in 2021 when the aggressive batter made a match-winning 87* in just 34 balls. On the back of Pollard’s incredible inning, Mumbai chased down a massive target of 219 runs and gave Chennai fans a day to forget.
Not just in batting but the former Mumbai player has also taken 15 wickets in 17 innings against Chennai. Pollard who was known for his fielding exploits as well took 15 catches in 28 matches. Now that the all-rounder has retired, Chennai fans took a sigh of relief as Pollard would not be able to snatch victory from the MS DHoni-led side anymore.

As a CSK fan , I admit that Pollard was the back-bone of MI-CSK rivalry. He tortured us with his knocks. Will miss him as a rival. Happy retirement Pollard!
