The Australian Cricket Team has selected its team of 18 members for the ODI World Cup which will take place in India. The tournament will happen in October. The squad will later be cut down to 15. The Australians have won 5 World Cup titles and will be looking to add another one to their cabinet when they play in India. The Australian players have great experience in Indian conditions due to the Indian Premier League (IPL) India lost the ODI series 2-1 at home to Australia before the 2023 IPL edition.
Marnus Labuschagne has played 30 ODIs and scored 847 runs at an average of 31.37. He has scored one hundred in the 50-over format. The right-hander has not found the right template to get going in ODIs and has failed to fully capitalise on the limited opportunities that he has got. On the other hand, Tanveer Sangha and Aaron Hardie come to the side. It remains to be seen whether they will end up getting a place in the playing XI.
When it comes to the pace bowling department, Mitchell Marsh, Cameron Green, Marcus Stonis and Sean Abbott will be the frontline pacers for Australia. The pace attack has depth and variety that could do well in Indian conditions. When it comes to the spin department, Ashton Agar and Sangha will join Adam Zampa. Pat Cummins will lead the side in the World Cup. The ace of pace sustained a wrist injury after the 2023 Ashes. This meant that he will not be a part of the three-match T20I series against South Africa.
Marsh will lead Australia in the absence of Pat Cummins for the T20Is against South Africa. Glenn Maxwell will not be a part of the ODIs against South Africa as he is expecting the arrival of his first child. Maxwell will come back to the Australian side and be a part of the India series which will be played in September ahead of the World Cup.
Australia ODI squad: Pat Cummins (captain), Sean Abbott, Ashton Agar, Alex Carey, Nathan Ellis, Cameron Green, Aaron Hardie, Josh Hazlewood, Travis Head, Josh Inglis, Mitchell Marsh, Glenn Maxwell, Tanveer Sangha, Steve Smith, Mitchell Starc, Marcus Stoinis, David Warner, Adam Zampa.
Let us take a look at the reactions on Twitter:
Just look at this freaking squad! All the bases covered + they have the guts to pick the inexperienced Tanveer Sangha and Aaron Hardie

Australia have announced their preliminary squad for ODI World Cup, but BCCI haven't even announced the fixed schedule yet. Proper mockery of CWC

No Labuschagne. Aussies are expecting a 350 average score WC …. Only one anchor in ODI team looks risky but they are Australia and they’ll be favourites even if they send their u19 team. pic.twitter.com/2e9QtGIkW6
