Hulk Hogan is considered one of the greatest WWE superstars of all time. The charisma and the energy which Hogan brought into his game despite being old were unmatchable. The legend was built differently and had incredible fitness. Hogan had a different appeal with the audience and there was no doubt why he was the face of the industry for a long time.
Many superstars in the 2000s looked up to Hogan and treated him as their idol of wrestling. Even today, emerging wrestlers want to replicate what Hogan could do in his career. But to date, one incident remains as the blackspot in Hogan’s career. The WCW Bash at the Beach 2000 match between Jeff Jarrett and Hulk Hogan remains controversial to date.
Due to the extreme star power, the Hulkster was given full creative freedom by WCW. In the WCW Bash at the Beach 2000, Jarrett was supposed to lose to Booker T. But Hogan wanted to beat Jarrett in the event for the championship on short notice. Jarrett spoke about the incident on VICE’s Dark Side of the Ring and revealed the fact.
“It was the reality the night this happened, and it is the reality as I sit here today saying this. In a business that gave him everything, and that’s what he gave back. It’s about the most self-centred, egotistical powerplay move that only benefited Hulk, and that’s the reality,” said Jarrett and accused Hogan’s move to be selfish.
Jarrett further expressed his disappointment over the storyline to the lead-up. The former World Champion revealed he had informed the change in the story to Vince. “I was dumbfounded, and I said, ‘Vince, this story is not well thought out. It does not make any logical sense for a babyface to capture gold this way. It is a bad taste that if a champion is going to be a champion, do you really not want to beat somebody?’ And this was the opposite of that” concluded Jarrett.
