The ODI World Cup will be held in India for the first time since 2011. The Men in Blue will be looking to end their nine-year ODI drought. The Rohit Sharma-led side will face off in a three-match ODI series against West Indies. The Men in Blue will want to iron out any flaws that they have ahead of the 50-over World Cup. They last lost an ODI series to Australia 3-0 at home before the start of IPL 2023.

India will try and look to make the most of home conditions. They will want to give their best in front of home fans.  Ahead of the 2023 World Cup, former India cricketer Wasim Jaffer picked his India-playing XI in the tournament. It was as follows. Rohit Sharma (C), Virat Kohli, Shubman Gill, Shikhar Dhawan, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul, Hardik Pandya,  Ravindra Jadeja,  Sanju Samson, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj,     Mohammed Shami &  Shardul Thakur.

Praisdh Krishna and Jasprit Bumrah could play few practice games at the National Cricket Academy

When the playing XI came out, there were a lot of reactions from the fans who questioned why Yuzvendra Chahal was omitted from the side. Many of them also pointed out that Sanju Samson does not merit a place in the Indian ODI setup. Some of the fans were of the opinion that Ishan Kishan should make way for KL Rahul. as wicketkeeper. Rahul has just recently started some low-intensity batting practice as per videos that were circulated online a few days earlier.

There were other reports saying that Prasidh Krishna and Jasprit Bumrah are working their way back to full fitness and that they will play a few practice games which would be organised by the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru. In the upcoming 3-match T20I series against Ireland Suryakumar Yadav might lead the side as Hardik Pandya and Shubman Gill could be rested due to workload management.

India will have 5 T20Is to be played against the Men in Maroon after the three-match ODI series. For the T20I series, youngsters such as Tilak Varma and Yashasvi Jaiswal have been called to the side. The next T20 World Cup will be held in West Indies and USA in 2024. The Men in Blue will want to recreate history in the 2023 ODI World Cup.
