India will take on Australia at the World Test Championship (WTC) 2021-23 final in England on June 7 at The Oval in London. The match will be a five-day affair with a Reserve day in place in case of a wash-out. The Dukes ball will be used for the game, and this is the second successive time England will host the WTC final. India lost the 2021 WTC final to New Zealand in Southampton. Ahead of the clash, India have another decision to make as to who their wicketkeeper will be whether it is Ishan Kishan or KS Bharat.
Bharat played in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2023 on home soil which took place in March. He did not have the best of tours as he dropped a few catches behind the stumps and was not able to get amongst the big runs for India. In 6 innings the Andhra wicketkeeper could score only 101 runs. However, Bharat revealed that he had a long chat with MS Dhoni ahead of the big game. Bharat said that MS Dhoni talked about what it takes to keep in England and shared his experiences regarding the same.
“Recently during the IPL, I had a word with Dhoni. He (talked about) his experiences keeping in England as well as what would work the best for any wicketkeeper. It was a very good conversation and there were a lot of insights from that,” He said on the Cricket Governing Body’s website. Bharat has been the standby wicketkeeper for Team India for some time now. With Rishabh Pant not in the picture at present, Bharat if given another chance will be keen to make an impression.
“It is the awareness – the best example is MS Dhoni, the awareness he has in keeping is outstanding. You need intent and passion to be a keeper because keeping is a thankless job. You keep 90 overs in a Test day and you have to be concentrating ball by ball, so you have to accept the challenges and embrace it and be really passionate about contributing to the team,” Bharat added when he talked about MS Dhoni.
