Yashasvi Jaiswal will replace Ruturaj Gaikwad in the Test Championship final against Australia in England. Gaikwad was initially drafted as standby for the mega final. However, he has pulled out of the squad due to his wedding. The Test Championship final will commence on June 7 at the Oval in London. Michael Vaughan reckons that the spinners will come into play at the venue, which is why he feels India have a chance.
This is the second Test Championship final that India will be a part of. They lost to New Zealand in 2021 when they played the final at Edgbaston. Rohit Sharma will want to get his hands on the coveted trophy and also the Test mace after not being able to win the Asia Cup in 2022 in the United Arab Emirates. The Men in Blue were knocked out of the 20-20 World Cup semi-final by England. The Three Lions then went on to clinch a second 20-20 World Cup.
India will look to win the Test Championship final and break their nine-year trophy drought
India have had a 9-year world event trophy drought. The last trophy that India won is the 2013 Champions Trophy under MS Dhoni. India will be hoping to get on the right side of things this time around. The Indian Test team will have to put all their prior experiences of playing in England to good use to ensure they become champions in Test Cricket.Β This Test Championship will be Rohit’s litmus test before the all-important ODI World Cup on home soil.
Australia will be no pushovers in English conditions. The Kangaroos will look to use their experience from the Ashes and give their best for the big game. The likes of Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins, Scott Boland and Nathan Lyon will be a big force to reckon with. India won against Australia 2-1 in home conditions at the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. But England will be a different kettle of fish altogether. The dukes ball will be used for the six-day affair.
