Lucknow Super Giants and Mumbai Indians locked horns against each other at the Ekana Stadium. Mumbai Indians got lucky with the coin and chose to bowl. LSG got off to a rocky start as Deepak Hooda fell for just 5 off 7 balls to Jason Behrendorff. Quinton de Kock was dismissed by Piyush Chawla for 16 off 15 balls with two sides. Prerak Mankad was Beherendorff’s second victim as he fell to a golden duck.
At 35-3, LSG were in a very precarious situation. Krunal Pandya then steadied the ship as he scored 49 off 42 balls with one four and one six. He felt some discomfort while running and left the field, retiring hurt. Nicholas Pooran came in his place. The star of the show for LSG was Marcus Stoinis as he orchestrated a wonderful innings of an unbeaten 89 off just 47 balls with four fours and eight sixes. The Australian all-rounder was very severe on Chris Jordan as he carted him for 24 runs in the 18th over.

It was an innings of class. This crazy knock helped LSG reach a total of 177-3 in their 20 overs. Behrendorff was the best bowler for MI. He picked up 2-30 in his four overs. In the second innings, MI came out swinging. It looked like the pitch at the Ekana stadium had changed its character completely. Rohit Sharma looked much better with the bat as he made an entertaining 37 off 25 balls with one four and three sixes to set the tone at the top of the order for his side. He was the first wicket to fall to Ravi Bishnoi.
Ishan Kishan, on the other hand, played a blinder. The left-hander played a wonderful knock of 59 off 39 balls studded with eight fours and one six. He was dismissed by Bishnoi as he tried to up the ante. Then Suryakumar Yadav was bowled by Yash Thakur soon after. Nehal Wadhera was dismissed by Moshin Khan for 16 off 20 with two fours. Tim David made a good unbeaten 32 off 17 balls with one four and three sixes to keep MI in the game. But LSG held their nerve with the ball and won a thriller by five runs on home turf.
