Delhi won their sixth game on Tuesday at the Brabourne Stadium, defeating UP Warriorz by five wickets, and earned a spot in the Women’s T20 League (WTL) 2023 final.
After Lanning won the toss and decided to bowl first, DC used a focused bowling effort to limit UPW to 138 for six. In the third group game of the WPL 2023, Delhi’s star player Alice Capsey took three wickets and left-arm spinner Radha Yadav took two as both of them made significant contributions with the ball. The best scorer for the UP franchise was Tahila McGrath scored 58 to take her side to a respectable total, while captain Alyssa Healy made 36.
Facing a 139-run target, Delhi won with 13 balls remaining thanks to captain Meg Lanning’s 39 runs off 23 deliveries. In preparation for their match against MI in the WTL Eliminator, UPW suffered their fourth loss in their last eight games.
The Delhi franchise defeated UP by five wickets and finished the league stage of the WPL with six victories out of the eight games, riding on the all-around heroics of Alice Capsey.
The Delhi franchise look ruthless at the moment and their players look fearless under the leadership of the Australian maestro Meg Lanning who knows a thing or two about leading great teams.
Due to their higher Net Run Rate, the Delhi franchise edged out the Mumbai team to claim first place in the league standings at the end of the league stage. The 12 points were the same for both teams.
Thursday’s Knockout match between Mumbai and the Warriorz will now take place at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai. After this, Delhi will have a four-day rest before the Sunday final at the Brabourne Stadium.
