Here’s another hypothetical situation that can become a reality in the future of cricket. Let’s say India and England are playing a World Cup final at the Melbourne Cricket Ground where the square boundary is the biggest in the world.
Picture Washington Sundar hitting a shot on the deep mid-wicket on the last ball when India requires 5 to win the game. The two Indian batters run for their lives and are close to completing five runs and handing over another World Cup to the 1.4 billion people. Soon however they see Ben Stokes letting the ball go to the boundary and in the process drawing the match.
Another instance that a fielder chooses to not field the ball could happen in the last over of a Test match which is heading towards a draw With the batting team left with just one wicket, a fielder could let the ball go to the boundary line in order to keep a tailender at the strike.
All these controversial cricket rules continue to affect the game; unfairly in some instances. Many have obstructed to their usage but so far nothing has come out of the objection.
