Iyer had scored good runs in the recent home series against the West Indies and Sri Lanka. He also has played well and scored good runs on the ongoing tour of the West Indies.

The 27-year-old has come under heavy scrutiny for not being able to handle the short ball. If he does not find a way to tackle the problem, it will be very tough for Iyer to make it to the 20-20 world cup considering the fast and bouncy conditions in Australia.
