The Delhi franchise announced their captain in the Indian T20 league on Thursday. David Warner will lead Delhi this season as Rishabh Pant is yet to recover from the injuries that he sustained in the near-fatal car accident that happened in December 2022. Delhi had a good season in 2008 when they made it to the semi-finals and also in 2020 when they were finalists.

Warner has had a wonderful time as captain in the Indian T20 league as he led the Hyderabad franchise to a title win in 2016. In 2016, The Australian overseas player was a beast in 2016 where he scored 848 runs in 17 games with an average of 60.57 and a strike rate of 151.42.

David Warner has scored 1867 runs for Delhi in Indian T20 League

In that season, he scored nine half-centuries and had the highest score of an unbeaten 93. Warner is no stranger to the Delhi side having started his Indian T20 league career with the Delhi only. He has played 67 matches and made 1867 runs at a strike rate of 136.77 and an average of 31.64. He has scored two hundreds and 15 fifties for Delhi with a highest score of unbeaten 109.

Warner did not want to take up Australian captaincy and said that he would not challenge his captaincy ban. But in the Indian T20 League, he is still favoured as a captain even at the age of 36. When he was banned after the Sandpaper Gate scandal and he could not play for Australia that year, he was a hot favourite across T20 Leagues.

The Capitals have also assigned Warner the task of captaining the side, which is coached by former Australian captain Ricky Ponting. Delhi were, earlier, led by Shreyas Iyer from 2018 to 2020 and in 2021, Pant became Delhi skipper as Iyer was sidelined due to a shoulder injury. Pant has led the side for two editions and also has been a wicketkeeper for Delhi.
