The Boxing Day sun promises to cast a dramatic glow over the SuperSport Park in Centurion, South Africa, as two cricketing titans, India and South Africa, clash in the first of a two-match Test series. This encounter transcends mere sport; it carries the weight of history and the simmering embers of rivalry.

India, the world’s No. 1 Test team, arrives with a massive sense of purpose. While they have been an excellent Test team for an extended period, the ghosts of South African soil still linger. India has never breached the fortress of a Test series victory in the rainbow nation, which has led to the media terming this series as ‘The Final Frontier’. However, the task will not be easy as South Africa are an extremely tough side to beat in their conditions. India came close to achievement on their previous two tours before falling agonizingly short.

Speaking to the media ahead of the opening game of the series, skipper Rohit Sharma urged his team to achieve what no other Indian team has done in the history of the game. He added that a series win would be massive for the team as they still process that fateful night of November 19.

“You will get the answer soon”

He was also asked about the heartbreaking loss that India faced in the World Cup Final last month. He confessed that the hunger for a major trophy remained undimmed in the Indian camp, burning brightly in the hearts of veterans and rookies alike. “We want to win something big. Everyone is desperate to bring glory to the team and country so I hope we can put up a good show in this series,” he said.

A journalist probed Rohit further, wondering if the desperation stemmed from the looming T20 World Cup in the USA and West Indies. Rohit, however, skillfully deflected the question, emphasizing the team’s overall desire to excel, regardless of the format. “I know what you’re trying to say but you’ll get the answer soon”, he declared.
