Shubman Gill opened the innings for India in the ongoing first Test against Bangladesh at Chattogram. Gill scored 20 runs in 40 balls before getting out off Taijul Islam in the 14th over of the innings.

Once again, he got a great start to his innings but couldn’t convert that into a big score. Former Indian cricketer, Mohammad Kaif highlighted the fact that Gill hasn’t managed to score a single century in his Test cricket career so far in 22 innings.

“You were set and you are opening. You will find it difficult to get a place once Rohit Sharma comes back. He has not scored a single century. He has played 22 innings. He has a highest score of 91, he has reached there but not scored a century,” Kaif said on Sony Sports.

Kaif stressed on the need to convert the starts into big scores as an opener and criticized Gill for not doing that on a regular basis. The 42-year-old then also shed light on his outstanding record in first-class cricket and expects him to replicate the same in international cricket as well.

“As an opener, you want that once you are set, when you reach 20 or 30, you play a big knock. Virat Kohli got out at the start. We are saying it’s okay because he couldn’t judge the line but Shubman Gill was set, had played a lot of deliveries,” he added.

Shubman Gill is a good player. He has an exceptional record if we talk about first-class cricket, he has an average of 50, scores a lot of runs. He is in very good form as well and came here after consistently scoring runs in ODIs.”

So far in his international cricket career, Gill has scored 579 runs in 11 Tests at 30.5. Besides, in 15 ODIs, he has managed to score 687 runs at 57.2.

Talking about the ongoing Test between India and Bangladesh, KL Rahul and Co. are in a pretty good position at the moment. At the time of writing, India have managed to score 380 for 7 in 131.1 overs.
