Sanju Samson has been one of the most hottest topics in Indian Cricket, of late. He has received support from the fans as the selectors and the team management continues to ignore him in white-ball cricket despite being in good form.

In the recently concluded ODI series against New Zealand, Samson was part of the India team but only made one appearance in the first ODI. He made 36 runs in 38 deliveries, including 4 fours. He was, subsequently, dropped from the side in the second and last ODI as the team wanted a batter who could provide an option with the ball as well.

India are now slated to play a three-match ODI series against Bangladesh and Sanju Samson is not even a part of the squad. Former Indian cricketer, Wasim Jaffer feels that the Rajasthan skipper must be given a longer rope, considering the kind of form he is in.

“Yes, I feel Samson, because he is in such a good form and he is not getting consistent run. I feel he deserves this. Even in T20 cricket or ODI cricket, he must have a consistent run of let’s say ten games,” he told ESPN Cricinfo.

“When you have a large talent pool and there are a lot of options, it may cause trouble for you. The management must chalk out 18-20 players that this our core team and focus on them,” he added

With Rishabh Pant not in the best of touches in white-ball cricket, the fans have continued to raise their voice in support of Samson and want him to replace the Delhi skipper. However, on the eve of the third ODI, skipper Shikhar Dhawan made absolutely clear that team will continue to back Pant despite being in poor form.

“Overall, you have to see the larger picture and who is your match winner. You analyse and your decisions are based on that,” Dhawan said at the post-match interaction. Of course, Sanju Samson has been doing really well in whatever opportunity he got. But sometimes you got to wait for your chances because the other player has done well, and we know based on his (Pant’s) skill that he’s a match-winner. So, you need to back him when he’s not doing well,” Dhawan said.
