Team India have been handed a massive blow ahead of the Asia Cup 2023 as KL Rahul is set to miss the first two games in Asia Cup 2023. The India batter is currently hard at work in training at Alur with the Indian Team would not be ready in time to play the first two games. The update on KL Rahul was provided by India head coach Rahul Dravid who talked about it in the press conference.

“KL Rahul is progressing really well but will not be available for India’s first two matches – against Pakistan and Nepal – of the Asia Cup 2023,” Dravid said. India was already prepared in this regard as they took Sanju Samson in the Asia Cup squad as a travelling reserve. KL Rahul was out for the second half of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 due to a thigh injury that took place at the Ekana Stadium. It happened in a game against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).

Rahul then flew down to England and underwent surgery, Earlier reports indicated that he might not make the cut in time for the Asia Cup. Videos of Rahul doing batting and wicketkeeping practice went viral on social media. When it comes to the wicketkeeper batter he has not had the best of times off late. His form has been dwindling across all formats. A lot of former cricketers have come down hard on him for his batting style and his not being able to score runs on a consistent basis.

Rahul has played 54 ODIs and scored 1986 runs at an average of 45.13 and a strike rate of 86.57. The Karnataka batter has scored 13 fifties and five hundreds. Rahul has played a dual role in the ODI side for the Men in Blue in the past. He has opened the innings and has also batted in the middle order for the national side. It remains to be seen if he makes the cut to the 15-member World Cup squad.
