New Zealand suffered a heavy defeat on Wednesday to lose their third game in a row during the ODI World Cup 2023. It was the 7th game of the tournament for both South Africa and New Zealand. With this win, Temba Bavuma and his side now have taken the top spot in the points table.

Tom Latham won the toss and chose to field first on what looked like a great pitch for batting. There was one change for the Kiwi side as veteran fast bowler Tim Southee came in for Lockie Ferguson.

South Africa on the other hand had made one change as they brought back Kagiso Rabada for Tabraiz Shamsi. The left-arm spinner had bowled well in his last game and played a crucial role in the 1-wicket win over Pakistan.

For the 6th time out of their 7 games in the ODI World Cup 2023, South Africa posted a 300-plus score on the board. On Wednesday South Africa scored 357 runs from their 50 overs. Temba Bavuma was the first man out for 24 caught by Daryl Mitchell off Trent Boult.

Quinton De Kock and Rassie Van Der Dussen then added exactly 200 runs for the second wicket. The South African wicket-keeper scored his fourth century of the ODI World Cup 2023 tournament. De Kock was out for 114 off 116 balls with 10 fours and 3 sixes before being dismissed by Tim Southee.

Rassie Van Der Dussen did not let the intensity drop as he too scored yet another ton during the ODI World Cup 2023. The 34-year-old was out for 133 runs off just 118 balls with 9 fours and 5 sixes.

David Miller then came to the party as he scored 53 runs from just 30 with 2 fours and 4 sixes. Aiden Markram swung the last ball of the innings for a six to help South Africa score 357/4 from their stipulated 50 overs.

Chasing 358 to win, the Kiwis did not have any answers to the South African bowling unit. Will Young stood tall scoring 33 runs while Daryl Mitchell managed to hit 24 runs. none of the other batters like Devon Conway or Rachin Ravindra could continue their sizzling form with the bat.

Despite heroics from Glenn Phillips who was the top-scorer with the bat the Kiwis couldn’t avoid the massive loss to give Pakistan a sniffing chance. Keshav Maharaj did the star turn with the ball-picking four wickets to help his team go top of the table.
