South Africa will not have the services of Quinton de Kock after the 2023 World Cup in ODIs. He will be playing his last home ODI for the Proteas against Australia. The Kangaroos and the Proteas will battle it out in the final ODI in the 5-match series with it tied 2-2 after four games. De Kock retired from Test cricket in 2021 and now he will only don the South African jersey for T20Is. When De Kock retired from Test cricket, he said he had to give time to his family.

“We understand his decision to step back from ODI cricket and we want to thank him for his service over the years,” South Africa’s director of cricket Enoch Nkwe said. “We wish him well for the future but still look forward to seeing him represent the Proteas in T20 cricket.” De Kock has been a very good player in ODIs. He scored 5966 runs in 140 games. He had a strike rate of 96.08. De Kock has slammed 17 hundred in the 50-over format.

We have a balanced group of players to play in India – Rob Walter

The Proteas will be captained by Temba Bavuma. The talk in the sub-continent is always about spin and South Africa have wonderful frontline options in Tabraiz Shamsi and Keshav Maharaj. Aiden Markram can chip in some very useful overs of off-spin wherever needed. He also has some Indian Premier League (IPL) experience playing for the Sunisers Hyderabad (SRH). “It’s great having a mix of experienced players and players who will be competing in their first 50-over World Cup – you get that sort of exuberance of excitement to be doing something for the first time,”  South Africa’s coach Rob Walter said.

“Similar to the level of experience, we have endeavoured to curate a well-balanced group of players and skill that will allow us to effectively adapt to the conditions in India,” he added. South Africa will open the 2023 World Cup against Sri Lanka which will be played on October 7. The Proteas will want to get their maiden World Cup title in India.
