‘Yeh tho Gaganchoombi sixer tha’- Fans in disbelief as Faf du Plessis hits 115m six during RCB vs LSG
Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) started off on a great note against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the M Chinnasamy Stadium in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 on Monday. They suffered a shock 81-run defeat against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in their second game of the campaign. But RCB hit the right notes against the LSG in their second home game. Kohli and Faf du Plessis walked out to open the batting for RCB. There was a switch of roles as Faf du Plessis started off slow while Kohli took on the aggressor’s role.
Kohli scored 61 off 44 balls with four fours and four sixes. Kohli was running like a bullet train in supreme form. Du Plessis had a scratchy start but scored a magnificent unbeaten 79 off 46 balls with fours and five sixes. Du Plessis got better as the innings progressed. He was in great form as he smashed Ravi Bishnoi for a cracking 115-metre six that landed outside the M Chinnaswamy Stadium. It was poetry in motion.
The ball flew off Du Plessis’s bat and made a resounding sound. It was a great sight. Fans would have reminisced on that moment with one of AB de Villiers or Chris Gayle’s monstrous sixes out of the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in their prime. The shot sounded so good and it reminded people of Du Plessis fitness and longevity as a cricketer. RCB had a good innings at the ground as the runs kept on flowing from start to end.

When Virat Kohli fell, it was all down to Du Plessis and Glenn Maxwell who made a big partnership towards the end to take the RCB to 212 in their 20 overs. Maxwell had not played cricket for a long time but his instincts took over and put on a show at RCB’s home ground. Maxwell made 59 off 29 balls with three fours and six sixes.
He was in his element and as his innings progressed he found his range. RCB will be happy to see Maxwell in good touch. An all-rounder like him is critical to the fortunes of the RCB side.
