West Indies and India locked horns on Day 3 of the second Test in Trinidad. West Indies continued from where they left off at 86-1. India toiled long and hard and finally got a breakthrough. The first wicket to fall was Kirk McKenzie for 32 off 57 balls with four fours and one six. He was caught behind by Ishan Kishan in Mukesh Kumar’s over to give the pacer his maiden Test wicket. It was a wonderful moment for the debutant whose years of hard toil had finally been rewarded. Kraigg Brathwaite meanwhile was resolute as he held one end up. He went through the grind and scored a hard-working 75 off 235 balls with five fours and one six.

Right after Mukesh took his maiden Test wicket it began to rain, this meant the first session was truncated and an early lunch was called. When play resumed later, Brathwaite was looking solid and wanted to continue on. But, he was castled by an absolute ripper from Ravichandran Ashwin. It was a tossed-up delivery and Brathwaite missed the line of the ball and was bowled. When Brathwaite fell the score was 157-3. Jermaine Blackwood came to the crease and he showed some intent by scoring boundaries.

India picked up only four wickets on Day 3 in Trinidad

He also batted long and scored 20 runs off 92 balls with two fours. He was sent back to the pavilion when Ajinkya Rahane took an absolute blinder off Ravindra Jadeja with one hand. Allick Athanaze came in at number 5 and showed that he wanted to bat long. Athanaze ended Day 3 on an unbeaten 37 off 111 balls with three fours. He put away the loose balls if there were any and also was very solid in defence. In the first Test, he scored a fine 47 on debut at Dominica.

Athanaze was batting with Joshua Da Silva who looked all at sea for his 10 runs off 26 balls. He was shown the door when Siraj bowled a ripper that sent his stumps flying. After Da Silva fell, the heavens opened up again. When the teams came back on after the rain stopped, it was for only a brief period because of bad light. There will be a half-an-hour early start on Day 4 to cover up for the loss of overs on Day 3.
