The 2o23 World Cup will be held in India. The Men in Blue will want to create history on home turf just like they did in 2011. With Rohit Sharma at the helm, India will want to break their nine-year World event drought. India have not been able to lift a World title since they won the Champions Trophy in 2013 under the leadership of MS Dhoni. The Men in Blue could get a massive boost ahead of the World Cup as Jasprit Bumrah’s return seems very imminent.

Earlier reports have claimed that Jasprit Bumrah would make a comeback through the three-match T20I series against Australia. Rohit Sharma has given the latest news on Bumrah ahead of the first ODI against West Indies. Bumrah is currently undergoing rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru. Bumrah missed the 2022 T20 World Cup for India and also the World Test Championship at the Oval.

We are in constant touch with NCA and things look positive at the moment – Rohit Sharma

“The amount of experience he (Bumrah) brings is very important. Right now he’s coming from a serious injury and I’ve no idea if he’ll travel to Ireland because the team hasn’t been announced yet,” Rohit said. “If he gets to play then it’s good and we hope he plays before the World Cup. When a player returns from a serious injury, match fitness, match feeling are some key components, which are missing” The India skipper added.

Rohit further said that Bumrah is well on the road to recovery and that the 36-year-old has been in constant touch with the people at the NCA. The Men who matter are constantly monitoring Bumrah and there are very positive signs for the India pace spearhead at present. “We’ll see what has been planned and everything depends on his recovery. We are in constant touch with the NCA and things look positive at the moment,” Rohit added.

Bumrah has been India’s trump card in ODI’s over the years. the 29-year-old has taken 121 wickets in 72 games at an average of 24.30 and at an economy rate of 4.63. If Bumrah gets fully fit ahead of the ODI World Cup then it will shore up India’s bowling resources massively. The Men in Blue last won the ODI World Cup in 2011.
