The Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) have been hampered by injuries, and they have had a stop-start campaign in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 so far. The Bold Army kicked off with a thumping 8-wicket win over Mumbai Indians (MI) in the first game. In their second game, they were handed an 81-run hammering in the hands of the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). RCB have never won an IPL trophy in 15 editions, and it might be difficult for them to break the streak this season.

RCB have roped in Wayne Parnell and Vyshak Vijaykumar as replacements for Reece Topley and Rajat Patidar respectively. Topley was ruled out of the IPL due to a dislocated shoulder. Patidar was ruled out of the league due to a heel injury. Parnell has been involved in the IPL. He has played for sides like Pune Warriors India and Delhi Capitals. The South African has picked up 26 wickets in 26 games in the IPL.

Wayne Parnell will be another all-around option for RCB

Vijaykumar has been Karnataka’s leading wicket-taker for Karnataka in the Vijay Hazare Trophy in the last two seasons. He has primarily played for the Mysuru Warriors in the Karnataka Premier League and the Maharaja Trophy. The Lanky pace bowler bowls right arm and can come in for RCB at the death. With Topley gone, RCB have lost a pure bowling option. Patidar was sensational for RCB in IPL 2022. The right-handed batter scored 333 runs at an average of 55.50 and a strike rate of 152.75.

He also made a blistering 112 against Lucknow in the eliminator. He had also scored two half-centuries for the Bold Army last season. RCB will miss him dearly as the Indian middle-order batter. RCB have blown hot and cold this season. RCB have not won an IPL title in 15 editions. The Bold Army will be hoping that Parnell and Vyshak will shore up their bowling.

Someone like Parnell could also lengthen the batting order and provide a left-handed option with the bat. RCB have made it to the finals of the IPL thrice in 2009, 2011, and 2016. RCB will hope to sort out their death bowling problems in the next game against Lucknow Super Giants at home.
