‘Yeh humara ilaka hai’- Fans abuzz as India register dominating win by an innings and 132 runs against Australia at Nagpur
India and Australia clashed against each other at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium in Nagpur in the first Test of the four-match series. Australia won the toss and chose to bat on a track which had a lot of assistance for the spinners.
The Indian bowlers were on song and kept the batters down to just 177 runs in the first innings. Steve Smith and Marnus Labuschagne made 37 off 10that7 balls with seven fours and 49 off 123 balls with eight fours, respectively.
In the first innings, Peter Handscomb and Alex Carey were the positives for the Kangaroos. Hanscomb made 31 off 84 balls with four fours, while Carey made 36 off 33 balls with seven fours. India then came out to bat with purpose in the second innings.
They got off to a great start with Rohit Sharma remaining unbeaten on Day 1 after making a half-century. He then converted it into a superb innings of 120 off 212 balls with 15 fours and two sixes.
Axar Patel made a stellar 84 runs off 174 balls to help India get a 223 run lead in the first innings
India were in a spot of bother at 229-6 when Rohit was dismissed, but the left-handed duo of Jadeja and Axar Patel came together to rescue India from a precarious position. Jadeja made a vital 70 off 185 balls, while Axar Patel made a stellar 84 off 174 balls with 10 fours and one six.
Mohammed Shami also made a quickfire 37 off 47 balls with two fours and three sixes only to frustrate the visitors even more. In the first innings, Todd Murphy picked up 7-124 on debut after a 47 -over spell.
The wonderful batting show helped India get a 223-run lead. In the second innings, Australia were skittled out for 91 on the back of a superb bowling performance from Ashwin, who picked another five- wicket haul in the second innings. He picked up 5-37 in his 12- over spell which was his 31st five-wicket haul in Test cricket. Jadeja picked up 2-34 in his 12 over spell.
Shami picked up 2-13 in his 4.3 over spell in addition to his amazing knock with the bat. Overall, it was a wonderful team effort as India showed why they are tough to beat in home conditions. India have had a wonderful start to Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2023.
The Australians did not have a proper answer to India’s spin attack. India won by an innings and 132 runs. Let us take a look at fans’ reactions here:
Never judge a pitch until both teams have batted on it. If both teams struggle, it's the pitch. If just one team struggles, it's the skills. Well played Team India 🇮🇳 👏🏽 #INDvAUS pic.twitter.com/YoV6b2M8DN

India were 5 down even before we got the lead, and now we are ahead by 223 runs. Speaks a lot about our batting depth and contributions by our lower order. Well done @akshar2026 & @MdShami11!#INDvAUS pic.twitter.com/XMYA5IifxS
