‘Yeh hui naa baath’- Fans react as Galle Titans beat B-Love Kandy by 83 runs in LPL 2023

The fifth match of the Lanka Premier League was played between B-Love Kandy and Galle Titans. Titans beat Kandy comprehensively, they won the toss and opted to bat first. Titans got off to a good start but lost their first wicket at 33. Against the run of play, Lasith Croospulle was the first one to fall. Banuka Rajapaksa was the second one down as he was caught by Thanuka Dabare off Ameer Jamal. When Shevon Daniel fell with a score of 60-3. The Galle Titans were in a tight spot.

Tim Sifert got them out of the hole with blistering innings of 74 off 39 balls with five fours and five sixes. This gave impetus to the side. Siefert received good support from Shakib Al Hasan who played a good knock of 30 off 21 balls. This meant that the Titans motored to 180-5 in their 20 overs. Mohammad Hasnain was the best bowler for  Kandy as he took 1-26 in his four-over spell. In the second innings, Kandy could not get going with the bat as the Titans bowlers came at the batters like a well-oiled machine.

B-Love Kandy were bundled out for 97 runs by Galle Titans in Lanka Premier League 2023

The bowlers picked up wickets at regular intervals and kept the batters from Kandy on a very tight leash. Ashen Bandara made the top score of 27 off 19 balls with one four and two sixes. Isuru Udana lower down the order hit 16 off 12 balls with three fours. Along with these two and Dabare, all the other batters struggled to get into double figures. When it came to Titans’ bowlers, Kasun Rajitha, Richard Ngarava, Tabraiz Shamsi and Shakib all picked up two wickets each.

Lahiru Samrakoon and Akila Dananjaya also picked up a wicket in their respective spells. Kandy imploded for 97 runs in just 17.1 overs in the run chase. Titans have won both their matches so far and are at the top of the table on four points, Kandy on the other hand are at the bottom with no points to their name and have two losses.
