As the rain had the final say in the second Test against India in Trinidad. It meant that the Men in Blue won the Test series 1-0. With the Tests done,  the focus will shift to the 3-match ODI series, The Men in Blue will now be looking to fix any chinks in their armour ahead of the 2023 ODI World Cup which will be held at home.  For the Men in Maroon, they will be looking to play for pride after crashing out of the World Cup qualifiers which were held in Zimbabwe.

The ODI series will kick off on July 27; Shai Hope will lead the side. Nicholas Pooran will not be a part of the team as he is playing in Major League Cricket in the USA. This means Hope will also don the gloves. Jason Holder is also not a part of the ODI side. The big news for the West Indies is Shimron Hetmyer will return to the squad and play his first ODI game for the West Indies after a long 2-year hiatus. Along with Hetmyer, tearaway quick Oshane Thomas also gets a call-back to the team.

Gudakesh Montie and Yannic Cariah will handle the spin department for West Indies

“We welcome Oshane and Shimron back into the group. Both have played at the international level before, with some success, and we believe they will fit well into the set-up. Cricket West Indies (CWI) chief selector Desmond Haynes said. “Oshane brings pace and is a potential wicket-taker with the new ball. Shimron’s style of batting will offer a lot, especially in the middle stage of the innings and he is also a potential ‘finisher’,” he added.

Alick Athanaze also gets a look into the ODI setup having impressed in the Test series. The left-hander hit 112 runs in two matches at an average of  37.33. West Indies also have a good range of spin options to choose from as left-arm spinner  Gudakesh Motie comes back from injury. Wrist spinner Yannic Cariah is also available. The West Indies batting lineup also looks strong with plenty of left-handed options at the top and in the middle order.
