In a shocking development, Pakistan Cricket Board Najam Sethi said that if the Asia Cup 2023 can be staged in a hybrid model, then he feels that the same can be done in World Cup 2023. India and Pakistan have been at loggerheads. India stated that they will not make the trip to Pakistan unless they get clearance from the government. Sethi confirmed his stance on the matter. The PCB had earlier proposed to hold India’s game in the Asia Cup at a neutral venue, while the rest of the games will be played in Pakistan.

On Sports Tak Sethi said if India will not travel to Pakistan for the Asia Cup, then Pakistan will reply in kind and will not make it to the World Cup. He said Pakistan will only come to India if their games are held at a neutral venue. “Two things that came out of the meeting were, one if India doesn’t play in Pakistan, then a neutral venue should be the way. And then a hybrid model can be embraced so that a few matches can take place in Pakistan and India’s matches will be at a neutral venue because we are hosts and it’s our right to play in Pakistan as well. And there are no security issues. Sethi said.

All top teams including Australia, England and New Zealand have toured Pakistan- Najam Sethi

“And if that doesn’t happen, I don’t think we can play Asia Cup. “Then the situation is, If India doesn’t play in Pakistan, we will also not play in India. That’s our view and our country’s view of the whole situation,” He added. Sethi went on to add that according to him there are no security issues in Pakistan. He further said that all top teams including Australia, England and New Zealand have toured Pakistan recently.

The PCB Chairman also said that a detailed report with all logistics and schedules to a senior member of the ACC who will in turn circulate it to Jay Shah. (Note -If the tournament happens, then only India’s games will be staged at a neutral venue).
