‘Yeh bada overhyped ladka hai’ – Fans rip into Harry Brook after he fails to score against Delhi Capitals in IPL 2023

Harry Brook was given a reality check in IPL 2023 when he was bowled by Anrich Nortje. Nortje bowled a slower leg-cutter on the stumps, and Brook tried to play a scoop shot by moving across. He, however, missed the ball completely and the ball hit the middle stump. Brook scored 7 off 14. He never looked comfortable as he has had an up-and-down IPL season so far.

His moment of glory came against KKR when he scored a majestic century against them at the Eden Gardens. But other than that, it has been only 63 runs scored so far if the century is taken out of the equation. Brook has looked good against pace. But not so sure against spin. He has not had the smoothest of rides in what is his first IPL. He had a fantastic Test debut against Pakistan where the flat tracks suited him.

But when he came to the IPL, he could not get on a consistent run because of the diverse character of the pitches in India. Even in the game against KKR, the Englishman looked comfortable against pace but he looked all at sea against spin. Through his hundred, Brook faced more of the fast bowlers. While batters like Aiden Markram and Abhishek Sharma went after the spinners of KKR in that game.

Brook also talked about the abuse that he has faced from the Indian fans ahead of his match-winning ton against KKR. “I was putting pressure on myself a little bit. You go on social media and people are calling you rubbish. There are a lot of Indian fans out there who’ll say well done tonight. But they were slagging me off a few days ago. Glad I could shut them up, to be honest,” he said after the KKR game.

Brook has not necessarily set the IPL on fire apart from the one innings. Now, needless to say, he will be under fire from Indian fans for failing to perform due to the massive price tag of 13.25 crore that he went for in the 2022 auction.  Brook has already seen a lot of ebbs and flows in his short cricket career.
