‘Yeh achannak se underated kaise ho gaya’ – Fans react as Sunil Gavaskar calls Rohit Sharma ‘underrated captain’ in IPL
Mumbai Indians have had a great season in IPL 2023. They have punched above their weight and shown everyone what they are made of. MI won eight games and lost six in the group stages. They then made it to the playoffs in the fourth spot. The Paltan finished on 16 points. Rohit Sharma has been very instrumental in how MI have performed this season. The five-time IPL-winning side has braved injuries and played out of their skin this season.
Speaking on the same, Sunil Gavaskar had a very interesting statement to say about Rohit as the MI captain. He said Rohit does not get enough credit as a captain in comparison to MS Dhoni. Rohit has brought out the best performances from many Indian youngsters such as Nehal Wadhera, Akash Madhwal Tilak Varma and Kumar Karthikeya. They have turned the campaign around in the absence of big-match players like Jasprit Bumrah and Jofra Archer.
Please give Rohit some credit -Sunil Gavaskar on Rohit Sharma’s captaincy
“Of course, he is underrated. The man has won 5 titles for Mumbai Indians. Let me give you an example. Madhwal got Ayush Badoni, bowling over the wicket. He then went round the wicket to the left-hander Nicholas Pooran. Gavaskar said. “If that had been CSK and Dhoni was the captain. Everybody would have said ‘Dhoni plotted Nicholas Pooran’s dismissal. This is what happens to a great extent. There is also a little bit of hype, things sometimes work out,” Gavaskar said.
“What I am saying is Rohit Sharma did not get the credit for telling Madhwal to bowl round the wicket,” Gavaskar said. “The captaincy situation as well. Remember, Nehal Wadhera was used as an impact player batting first. Teams generally don’t use batters as Impact Players when they are batting first. But Rohit used Nehal when MI were batting first against LSG. So please give him credit for that as well,” Gavaskar further emphasised.
In terms of titles in the IPLm Chennai Super Kings have won four titles, while MI have five. However, CSK have made it to the playoffs 12 times in comparison to MI’s 10. The 16th edition of the IPL will conclude on May 28th. The final of the league will be held at the Narendra Modi Stadium.
Let us take a look at the reactions on Twitter:
I think everything related to MI is overated. I am from MH i think other franchise players don't get that much appreciation. I am still waiting for ICC trophy from Rohit as captain. He is already 36 and looks like 40.

He is the most overrated captain. Would have won us the World Cup or the Asia cup to say the least. He hasn't been performing in major tournaments for a long time, it was all because of bumrah, pandya brothers, polard and malinga that he won ipl those many times

And the sentence “Rohit is underrated captain he don't get enough credits” seems me strange because from
2013-2020 people always have given more credits to Rohit than Malinga,Pollard,Bumrah, Pandya brothers.
How can anyone think like this?— Nikhil 𝕏 (@nikhilsp27) May 26, 2023

Badoni is right handed and pooran is left handed that's why madhwal changed his position . Gavaskar is always being baised towards rohit and mi
