‘Ye trophy CSK ko dedo yr’ – Fans react as CSK beat DC by 27 runs to inch closer to IPL 2023 Playoffs
In the 55th match of the Indian Premier League 2023, Chennai Super Kings faced Delhi Capitals at Chepauk Stadium. While the Capitals were aiming for a win to keep their playoff hopes alive, the Super Kings were looking to maintain their momentum.
After winning the toss, CSK chose to bat first on a sluggish wicket. Ruturaj Gaikwad batted first and gave them a flying start with some early boundaries. Devon Conway, the other CSK opener, on the other hand, was struggling to get going. To no one’s surprise, he did not last long as Axar Patel dismissed him in the 5th over. CSK managed 49 runs in the powerplay, but Gaikwad (24) was dismissed immediately after.
The Men in Yellow, like Gaikwad, had a few cameos in the innings, but no one had a bigger impact on the game. Shivam Dube (25) and Ambati Rayudu (23) put on a decent partnership of 36 runs for the fifth wicket, while Ravindra Jadeja (21) and MS Dhoni (20) also played small cameos.
CSK managed to score 167/8 in their allotted 20 overs. Mitchell Marsh, who took three wickets in three overs for the Capitals, was the pick of the bowlers. Axar also took two wickets in the innings, while Lalit Yadav, Kuldeep Yadav, and Khallel Ahmed each bagged one.
DC show no intent in the chase
The chase was as difficult for the DC batters because none of them took responsibility for accelerating and scoring. Deepak Chahar set the tone for CSK, dismissing David Warner on the second ball of the innings. The Capitals lost two more wickets before Manish Pandey and Rilee Rossouw gave them some hope.
The two added 59 runs for the fourth wicket, but it wasn’t enough to get them back into the game. The 2020 finalists may have overlooked the opportunity to move Axar Patel up the order, as he has performed effectively with the bat this season. In this match, he scored 21 runs and 12 balls.
In the end, Delhi scored 140/8, falling far short of the target. CSK beat DC by 27 runs to inch closer to a spot in the Playoffs. On the other hand, the Capitals cannot lose any of their remaining matches to stand a chance to qualify.
