The 2023 ODI World Cup is yet to be played in India which begins in October. But there are already talks of the T20 World Cup which will take place in 2024. The host venues are the  West Indies and the USA. The Men in Blue will play a lot of T20I cricket ahead of the tournament. They will have 5 T20is Vs West Indies (Away), – 3 T20is Vs Ireland (Away), 5 T20is Vs Australia (Home), 3 T20is Vs South Africa (Away) and 3 T20is Vs Afghanistan ( Home). After all these games, there will be the 2024 edition of the Indian Premier League.

Hardik Pandya will likely be the captain of the side come the 2024 T20 World Cup. Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are not part of the 5 -match T20I series that will take place in the West Indies and the USA. The likes of Yashasvi Jaiswal, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Mukesh Kumar and Tilak Varma have been handed call-ups to the Indian T20I setup. Since the World Cup will take place in the same country, India will want to study the conditions as closely as possible. The Men in Blue beat the Men in Maroon in the first ODI by 5 wickets.

India lost the semi-finals in the 2022 T20 World Cup to England

When it comes to India at the T20 World Cup. They have not had the best of records. After winning the inaugural T20 World Cup edition in 2007, they made it to the final in the 2014 edition in Bangladesh but lost to Sri Lanka. When the World Cup was last held in the West Indies in 2010, India were out of the Super 8 stages after making it through to the first round. India lost to Australia, West Indies and Sri Lanka and crashed out of the tournament.

The Men in Blue won their first-round fixtures against Afghanistan and South Africa. In the 2022 edition, India won all their group fixtures and made it to the semi-finals against England. Alex Hales and Jos Butter knocked the wind out of India’s sails to win by 10 wickets. The Men in Blue will hope a young team under Hardik Pandya can repeat the heroics of 2007.
