The Indian Premier League (IPL) has been growing by leaps and bounds year after year. The IPL 2023 had some of the best games of the show which kept viewers hooked to the edge of their seats. Many last-ball finishes thrilled the fans to a great extent. Some of the fans felt that some of the IPL matches put the film scriptwriters to shame. Chennai Super Kings (CSK) won their fifth title in the 2023 edition in a closely fought final against Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium.
On the other hand, there was a major boost to the IPL in terms of brand value, The brand value of the IPL at present is 3.2 billion USD a massive surge from 2022 when it was at 1.8 billion in 2022, when it comes to the business enterprise value of the IPL it is at USD 15.4 billion, in 2022 it was at 8.5 billion. These numbers have come out from Global investment bank Houlihan Lokey, Inc, the results of which came out on Monday.
Chennai Super Kings top the charts when it comes to brand value in the IPL
“Created on the American style of franchise-based systems of hiring players, the IPL has established itself as a hugely lucrative sports league, along similar lines as the NFL and the NBA,” says Harsh Talikoti, Senior Vice President, of Corporate Valuation Advisory Services at Houlihan Lokey said in the report. IPL 2022 was looked at MS Dhoni’s last season before he backtracked from retirement which led to the astronomical increase in viewership numbers across platforms.
“Besides the exponential growth in brand and business enterprise valuation of the IPL and the franchises, it is interesting to note the prominent shift towards acceptance of digital platforms for sports consumption. Viacom18’s strategic push towards promoting digital viewership in India has undeniably reignited the much-needed excitement surrounding the IPL. The report further said.
When it comes to the teams, they have also seen a massive upsurge in terms of brand valuation. CSK lead the charts when it comes to brand ranking and business enterprise value ranking. Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) are in second place when it comes to brand value at 195 million USD. Rajasthan Royals (RR) also saw a massive spike in their brand valuation.
