Punjab Kings are back to their winning ways as they defeated Lucknow Super Giants by 2 wickets in match number 21 of IPL 2023 on Saturday. Batting first at the Ekana Cricket stadium, LSG posted a total of 159 runs for the loss of 8 wickets. In reply, PBKS scored 161 runs in 19.3 overs losing 8 wickets to register a last-over victory.

Skipper KL Rahul and Kyle Mayers gave a fine start to LSG by adding 53 runs for the first wicket in 7.4 overs. Mayers got out after scoring 29 off 23. After that, Rahul went on to score his first half-century of the tournament with wickets regularly falling from the other end.

The LSG skipper got out after scoring 74 runs off 56 balls with eight fours and a maximum. Stand-in skipper Sam Curran scalped 3 wickets for PBKS, conceding 31 runs in his four overs. Kagiso Rabada took 2, while Arshdeep Singh, Harpreet Brar, and Sikandar Raza shared a wicket each.

Chasing the winning total, PBKS didn’t have a great start as they lost Atharva Taide in the very first over. An over later, PBKS lost another opener Prabhsimran Singh and the score was reduced to 17 for 2 in 2.2 overs. After that, Matthew Short tried to take the innings further by adding 34 runs off 22 balls but got out on the last ball of the powerplay.

After Short’s dismissal, Sikandar Raza took charge of the innings and went on to score a gritty half-century despite wickets regularly falling from the other end. Raza got out in the last ball of the 18th over after scoring 57 runs off 41 balls with four fours and three sixes. After that, Shahrukh Khan played a valuable cameo and remained unbeaten on 23 off 10 hitting one four and two sixes.

Shahrukh hit the winning boundary in the last over as PBKS successfully chased the winning total with three balls to spare. For LSG, Mark Wood, Yudhvir Singh and Ravi Bishnoi took 2-2 wickets, while Krishappa Gowtham and Krunal Pandya shared a wicket each.
