Star India spinner Kuldeep Yadav has been phenomenal throughout the ongoing Asia Cup. He is the highest wicket-taker for the Indian team and has been great with his wrist. After a five-wicket haul against Pakistan on Monday, Kuldeep clinched four wickets against Sri Lanka on Tuesday.
During the match, Kuldeep and wicketkeeper-batter KL Rahul were seen having long discussions. Their discussion helped India get breakthroughs at crucial moments. However, it was evident that Rahul was giving suggestions to Kuldeep and helping him with the field placement. After India’s victory, broadcaster Sanjay Manjrekar asked Rahul about his discussion with Kuldeep.
The 31-year-old wicketkeeper-batter refused to make any comments as he didn’t want to take Kuldeep’s credit. He said, “I don’t want to take credit from Kuldeep. He did the execution; I just passed the message. It’s worth noting that Kuldeep Yadav has nine wickets in three innings in the ongoing tournament. He is the leading wicketkeeper in the Asia Cup 2023.”

In the game against Sri Lanka, Kuldeep clinched four wickets, a record for him. He became the fastest Indian spinner to take 150 wickets in one-day internationals. He surpassed the previous record, held by ace spinner Anil Kumble. Kuldeep achieved this milestone in the 87th inning, while Kumble took 106 innings to do so.
Overall, Kuldeep became the second-fastest Indian to take 150 ODI wickets, trailing Mohammad Shami by eight matches. On the other hand, Kuldeep is the fourth-fastest spinner in the world to achieve this record. He is behind Saqlain Mushtaq, Rashid Khan, and Ajantha Mendis. It’s worth noting that with his outstanding performance, India beat Sri Lanka by 41 runs to book their tickets for the finals of the Asia Cup in 2023.
