England has announced its squad for the ODI and T20I series against New Zealand. The series will act as a preparatory assignment for the two sides ahead of the 2023 ODI World Cup. The big news from the squad has been the return of Ben Stokes to the ODI side for England and the young talent Harry Brook being snubbed from the same.

Ahead of a big tournament like the 2023 ODI World Cup, England could not find an able replacement for Ben Stokes. As a result, it forced the management and the captain to recall Stokes for the ODI side. As per the request of Jos Buttler and Co, Ben Stokes decided to return to ODIs. The Southpaw will play in the big tournament and the upcoming series against New Zealand as a specialist batter.

The inclusion of Ben Stokes meant that a middle-order batter from the previous series had to be dropped.  Harry Brook was dropped from the English ODI squad, which can be a big scar on the confidence of the youngster. Brook had a impressive Ashes series against Australia and was excited about his upcoming assignment. Unfortunately, the 24-year-old will have to wait for opportunities.

The squad looks great with a mix of youth and experience. The presence of multi-dimensional players makes it a robust side.
