WPL Auction 2024: Five big players who went unsold in round 1

Some shocking names have made the list.

165 players are set to be bid for by 5 teams during the WPL Auction 2024. Annabel Sutherland was brought by Delhi Capitals for a whopping amount of INR 2 Crores. Dani Wyatt and Phoebe Litchfield went to UP Warriorz and Gujarat Giants respectively.

The first round witnessed some shocking names that went unsold as well. The players who went unsold are seasoned cricketers with years of experience behind them. In this list let us take a closer look at the five big players who went unsold in round 1 of WPL Auctions 2024:

5. Veda Krishnamurthy – India

The 31-year-old did not find a team during the WPL 2023 season. On Saturday WPL Auction 2024 saw more of the same. Veda Krishnamurthy went unsold in the first round of the bidding process.

The all-rounder is quite experienced having 48 WODI games along with 78 WT20I matches for India. Veda has also played 9 WBBL games for the Hobart Hurricanes team for two seasons. The snub meted out to such a senior player is indeed a huge shock.

4. Priya Punia – India

Just like Veda Krishnamurthy, her India teammate Priya Punia had not played in the WPL 2023 season. The 27-year-old yet again went unsold in the 1st round of WPL Auctions 2024 in Mumbai on Saturday.

Priya Punia has played 5 WODI and 3 WT20I matches for India. The 27-year-old has been out of favour for some time as far as an international cricketer is concerned. There is no doubting Priya Punia and her talent with a decade of experience behind her.

3. Poonam Raut – India

The Indian batter is one of the most experienced players along with Harmanpreet Kaur and Smriti Mandhana. The 34-year-old went unsold in the first round of WPL Auctions 2024 on Saturday.

The stylish batter from Mumbai has played 35 WT20I games for India scoring 719 runs with 4 half-centuries. Raut has also played 73 WODI games scoring 2299 runs with 3 centuries and 15-half centuries for India.

2. Sabbhineni Meghana – India

With over 7 years of International cricketing experience, Sabbhineni Meghana must have been downcast on Saturday. The 27-year-old went unsold at the end of the 1st round of the WPL Auction 2024 in Mumbai. One expects the youngster from Andhra Pradesh to find a buyer soon.

1. Chamari Athapaththu – Sri Lanka

Perhaps the biggest name who went unsold in the first round is Sri Lankan legend Chamari Athapaththu. The 33-year-old has played 118 WT20I games for her national side with over 2500 runs. The stylish batter has also hit one ton and 8 half-centuries during her distinguished career.
