Imran Khan, a former Pakistan captain, is sentenced to ten years in prison for disclosing state secrets. On Tuesday, a Pakistani court in Rawalpindi convicted former Prime Minister Imran Khan and Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi to ten years in prison in a Cypher case.

Khan was prime minister from 2018 until 2022 when he was deposed in a no-confidence vote after losing the support of the country’s military rulers.

The prison sentence comes a week before the general election on February 8, in which Imran Khan has been banned from running.

The Cypher case is about a diplomatic cable that supposedly went missing from Khan’s custody. Khan had often stated before and during the no-confidence motion against him last year that the cypher pointed to a plot to depose him as prime minister.

Imran Khan was detained for allegedly violating the Official Secrets Act by disclosing a sensitive diplomatic cable known as the Cypher from Pakistan’s embassy in Washington, the contents of which became public in March 2022. Khan was deposed as Pakistan’s Prime Minister in April 2022 following a motion of no-confidence. He was imprisoned on August 5, 2023, when an Islamabad court sentenced him to three years in prison in the Toshakhana matter. He was sent to the Attock District Jail to fulfil his sentence.

He played his last Test match for Pakistan against Sri Lanka. He didn’t bat and ball in the last innings as Pakistan won the match and the series.

Imran Khan made his ODI debut against England at the age of 18 years. He is also graduated from Oxford University. Imran Khan is famously known for his reverse bowling technique. He is the second fastest all-rounder who has claimed 3000 runs and 300 wickets only Ian Botham is ahead of him.
