‘Wonderful cricket from India’- Twitter up in arms as India keep Pakistan to 160

India and Pakistan are currently taking on each other at Melbourne Cricket Stadium. India won the toss and chose to bowl. Pakistan got off to a bad start as Babar Azam was dismissed on the first ball by Arshdeep Singh. Rizwan played a laborious innings of only 4 off 12 balls by a good short ball bowled by Arshdeep.

The pitch had been under covers and there was a lot of swing on offer for the bowlers. The pitch was hard and was rolled well before the game which meant that there was good and true bounce on the surface which gave enough assistance to the bowlers and also allowed the batters to play shots. The new ball kept swinging for most part of the innings which kept the bowlers in play.

At 15 for 2, Pakistan were in dire straits but the recovery was engineered by Shan Masood and Iftikhar Ahmed, who scored 51 off 34 balls with two fours and four sixes. He pushed the score to 91 but was dismissed leg-before wicket by Mohammed Shami. Hardik Pandya brought India back into the game by picking crucial wickets of Shadab Khan, Haider Ali, and Nawaz.

Shaan Masood held the innings together and played a wonderful innings of 52 off 42 with five boundaries in his knock. Some lusty blows at the end by the fast bowlers enabled the Men in Green to get to 160 from their 20 overs. Hardik and Arshdeep shone brightly with the ball for India by picking up three wickets each from their four over spells. Mohammed Shami bowled a wonderful spell of 1-25 from his four overs.

This is the third time that India are facing Pakistan after two rounds in the Asia Cup where it ended in a stalemate. This is the third clash in the same year for both sides which is a rare occurrence in Ind- Pak Cricket. It remains to be seen whether the Indian batting line up can come together and chase down the challenging total of 160 in the second innings.
