Women’s Asia Cup 2022: Thailand’s chances of making it into the Semi-final- Here’s how the points table looks like
Thailand Women’s cricket team shocked all after defeating Pakistan in the 10th match of the Women’s Asia Cup 2022. The minnow team clinched a four-wicket win over the Pakistan team. What followed was a charge by the Thailand team that saw them win three games on the trot.
With six points in five matches, the Thailand team is currently fourth on the league table and right in contention for qualification for the next round. Following a win over Pakistan, the Thailand team has won against UAE- Women and Malaysia Women team.
Their next match however is against the leaders India who are at number one with eight points in five matches. Thailand need to only fend off Bangladesh if they are to qualify for the next round.
Bangladesh in strong position
Bangladesh Women’s team has won two matches out of five and sits at fifth with four points. Bangladesh plays UAE Women next which looks like an easy game for them on paper. The UAE team lingers at sixth with two points from five matches and is out of contention for the seminal. Given the talent Bangladesh players possess, their next match looks easy for them.
If Bangladesh win their next match against UAE- Women, they would get six points and a run rate of over +0.506. If Thailand win their next match, however, they will get eight points and they would safely reach Semi-final as it’s impossible for Bangladesh to get four points in one match.
If both lose their next match, then it would propel Thailand to the semi-final as they’re already on the fourth position. If however, Thailand lose their next match and Bangladesh win, it would take Bangladesh over Thailand in the points table based on their superior net run rate and they will qualify for the Semi-finals of the Women’s Asia Cup 2022.
