England seamer Stuart Broad has admitted that his wife Molly’s favourite cricketer is not him. Broad has revealed that Chris Woakes is at the top of his wife’s list, particularly following the right-arm seamer’s match-winning performance at Headingley. Woakes, in his first Test of the summer, was important in England’s three-wicket victory at Headingley.

The 34-year-old took six wickets and scored an unbeaten 32 in the fourth innings to help the team post a challenging total of 251. Woakes’ impact on English cricket is undeniable. His steady performances, whether with the ball or the bat, have cemented his place as one of the contemporary game’s top all-rounders. His recent exploits at Headingley strengthen his standing and demonstrate his ability to execute under duress.

Woakesy’s just an amazing cricketer: Stuart Broad

The 37-year-old Nottinghamshire seamer, who has previously won two World Cups for England, believes Headingley witnessed Woakes’ finest complete performance. He stated: “Woakesy’s just an amazing cricketer. My wife, Mollie, told me he was her favourite player, to which I replied: ‘What about me?’ She said: ‘You’re second.’ Thanks very much. The biggest compliment I can pay him is that he’s helped win two World Cup finals, but last week at Headingley was the most important all-round contribution he has made.”

Broad also stated that Mark Wood’s presence energizes the team and he further said, “England are a better team with Wood in it — not just because of his extra pace, which is a thrill to watch from close up, but because of the energy he brings. I didn’t see him on all fours in the Headingley dressing room barking like a dog, which is what Ollie Robinson has suggested, but worryingly I can believe it.”

Mark Wood, who took seven wickets in the game, including five in the first innings, was another key contributor to England’s victory at Headingley. The 33-year-old also made two crucial cameos with the bat. The stakes will be high when England and Australia meet in the fourth Ashes Test in 2023. They are currently aiming for a series-leveling win. Meanwhile, the Australians can win the series with a win in the next game.
