Hayley Matthews seems to be breaking records after records one after the other. the West Indies player is currently at the peak of her cricket and is shattering records for fun. Against the world’s best team in Australia, the West Indies batter gave her career best performance in a series. The West Indies captain won the Player of the Match award, her 8th in a row in T20Is, despite losing the match.

Australia posted a mammoth score of 190 runs in their 20 overs in Brisbane. Matthews scored 79 runs in 40 balls, but there was no support from the other end. At one point, West Indies was 89/0 after 10 overs. But the wicket of Hayley began the collapse, which never ended. From 89/0 at one stage, West Indies was bundled out for just 143 runs, as they lost their 10 wickets for just 54 runs.

Despite the loss, Matthews was appreciated by the opponents. After her knock, Matthews spoke in the post-match conference. “I knew for sure we were in for a shot. Unfortunately, Darcie Brown kind of outsmarted me and it didn’t go to plan after that. The momentum was definitely on our side at that point in time,” said the West Indies star batter.

Hayley Matthews blasts several records in T20Is

Despite the loss, Matthews shined throughout the series. Hayley helped West Indies to chase the record total in the second T20I by scoring an unbeaten 131 that kept West Indies alive in the series. In the first T20I, Matthews scored 99 runs despite losing the match. In 3 matches in the series, Matthews scored a whopping 309 runs, which is the most for any batter in a T20I series.

Hayley is on a streak of 8th consecutive Player of the match award in the format, which is the most for a player in T20Is. The streak is yet to be broken. The feat of Matthews in the series has been incredible, as it has come against Australia, the best team in the world. Not many batters have achieved what Matthews has done in the series against Australia.
