Team India will square off against Australia at the World Test Championship (WTC) final which will start on June 7 at the Oval. India will be playing their second WTC final in England after they lost in 2021 to New Zealand. Rohit Sharma will be having good memories at the Oval as he scored a century the last time India played a Test match against England. Ahead of the big clash, Kohli was all praise for Rohit.

Rohit has had a new lease of life in Test cricket after he shifted his position to the tough of the order in the longer format. In a stop-start Test career, he has made 3379 runs at an average of 45.66 and at a strike rate of 55.94. The India skipper has scored 14 fifties and nine hundreds in the white flannels. Kohli said he expects Rohit to replicate his performances from the last England tour in 2021.

Rohit Sharma has a great temperament and has done the tough job of opening in Test cricket: Virat Kohli

“Rohit always had more time than anyone, when I saw Rohit Sharma batting for the very first time, I understood what the hype was all about and why he was rated so highly,” Kohli told the Cricket Governing Body. In an interview with Gaurav Kapur on Breakfast with Champions, he said that when he first saw Rohit bat on TV, he fell off his sofa. Kohli further said that he had earlier thought that Rohit was very curious.

“What Rohit has done in white ball cricket for a long period, everyone knew his talent but the way he performed in tests in last few years showed his belief that he can do it in tests at the highest level, he has done really in English conditions,” Kohli added. “The way he performed in tests in the last few years has shown the testimony of his temperament and opening is a tough job and he did a great job, he has performed well in all formats, enjoy watching him, especially from the other end and hopefully he can repeat his performance what he did in Oval in last time,” Kohli further reiterated on Rohit.
