A limited-overs beast, Will Jacks’ unfortunate injury sidelined him during his first IPL stint

Despite boasting immense popularity and fielding some of the biggest cricketing stars over the years, the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) remain tantalizingly close, yet frustratingly distant from, capturing the coveted Indian Premier League (IPL) trophy. As they gear up for their 17th attempt at IPL glory in 2024, anticipation hangs heavy in the air. Will this year finally see RCB break their Championship drought and raise the cup amidst a frenzy of jubilant fans? Only time will tell, but one thing’s for sure: the story of RCB’s pursuit of IPL glory remains one of the most intriguing narratives in the tournament’s history.

RCB have made some interesting moves during the auction, by acquiring talents like Tom Curran and Alzarri Joseph. They also got hold of the highly-rated Cameron Green from Mumbai Indians. Nestled amongst these newcomers lies a player who, despite being on RCB’s books in 2023, is yet to grace the field in red and gold: Will Jacks. A limited-overs beast, Jacks’s unfortunate injury has sidelined him during his first IPL stint. However, with a clean bill of health and a year of seasoning under his belt, 2024 could finally be the year where we can witness the English dynamo unleash his fury in an RCB jersey. The stage is set, and anticipation for Jack’s debut is palpable.

“It’s a nightmare for the selectors”

RCB legend AB de Villiers has lit a fire under the already simmering hype surrounding Will Jacks. In a recent YouTube video, De Villiers has lavished praises on the English youngster, by calling him ‘a complete package.’ However, De Villiers acknowledged the challenge posed by the IPL’s four-foreign-player limit, expressing hope that Jacks finds a way into the playing XI despite the competition for overseas slots. De Villiers’ vocal backing adds another layer of intrigue to Jacks’ upcoming RCB stint.

“It seems like the people of Bengaluru and RCBians are excited for this man to perform for RCB. That’s a big question (will Jacks play for RCB). We know he can score big runs. It is a nightmare for the selectors. I hope they make a spot for him. He is a complete package and can win games at Chinnaswamy or anywhere else he goes for RCB,” he said in the video.
