Day 1 of the first test match between England and Pakistan took place at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium in Rawalpindi on December 1, Thursday. England won the toss and chose to bat on a track that looked like a dead flat wicket on which the batters could feast. There was a slice of history involved as well because England were playing a Test tour on Pakistan soil after 17 years.

The Three Lions had toured Pakistan for a 7-match T20 series earlier in which England beat Pakistan 4-3 in a closely fought series under the captaincy of Moeen Ali. England made the most of the conditions which favoured the batters. There were four hundreds scored by the England batters on Day 1 of the Test match.

Zak Crawley scored 122 off 111 balls with 21 fours. Ben Duckett smashed 107 off 110 balls with 15 fours. Olie Pope whacked the bowlers and made a quick 108 off 104 balls with 14 fours. Harry Brook completed the carnage by scoring 101 off just 81 balls with fourteen fours and two sixes. At the end of day 1, England ended up on a mammoth 506-4 after 75 overs.

Pakistan were annihilated by England in all three sessions as England scored 174 runs in the morning session. 158 runs in the afternoon session and 174 runs in the evening session. The last block of runs in the third session came in just 21 overs. On a day when there was a hemorrhage of runs only three maidens were bowled by the Pakistan bowlers.

Duckett and Crawley put up a century stand for the first wicket in just 13.5 overs. In another big event, Harry Brook whacked Saud Shakeel for six fours in an over and also missed out on the record to score the fastest test hundred by an England player. Ben Stokes also blasted a quickfire 34 off 15 balls to give England the ascendancy at the end of the day. The Men in Green were saved by bad light as only 75 overs of play were possible.

Twitter was abuzz, let us take a look at the reactions here:
