In the limited-overs series against West Indies, India has chosen to play without their main batters like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, as the two giants have been the regular run scorers for the team. To test the capabilities of the youngsters, the senior batters were rested in the ODI series, especially in the last two matches where the two were not even in the playing XI.

In the first ODI of the series, Kohli did not get an opportunity to bat. Captain Rohit demoted himself to number 7 and allowed other batters to have some time in the middle. The results were not great in the first couple of ODIs. But in the decider of the series, the young talents came good and won the match for the team with the bat.

In the ongoing T20I series, the batters have failed badly till now. Barring Tilak Varma and Suryakumar Yadav, none have been fired. Sanju Samson in particular, has failed to perform in all the three T20Is against West Indies. The failures of Samson have led to criticism from many former cricketers. The former Pakistani spinner Danish Kaneria has expressed his opinions on Sanju Samson.

India rested Rohit and Virat to give others a chance – Kaneria

In his YouTube channel, the former leg spinner questioned the lack of runs from Samson. “India rested Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli so that they could give others a chance, as many have complained that a few players have not had enough opportunities. Now that India has played them, when are you going to score runs, Sanju Samson?” Kaneria questioned the Indian batter.

The former Pakistan player said he was one of those who wanted Samson to get opportunities in the Indian team but could not make the best use of his chances. “He has had enough chances now. I was among the people who supported him and wanted him to get consistent opportunities. However, he has not made the most of these chances” said Danish Kaneria, who was disappointed with the Indian middle-order batter.
