The 13th match of the Women’s Asia Cup 2022 took place between India and Pakistan at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium, and it was a low-scoring thriller as Pakistan beat India by 13 runs. The points table has opened up even more after this result as the two teams, who have taken the top two spots, are level on points with three wins in four games.

The toss was won by Pakistan as they opted to bat first. They got off to a poor start as Muneeba Ali and Sidra Ameen departed very early on in the piece to Deepti Sharma and Pooja Vastrakar respectively. And Omania Sohail was dismissed by Renuka Singh for a duck at 33-3, Pakistan found an able hand in skipper Bismah Maroof who played a valuable hand of 32 from 35 balls with two fours.

Nida Dar played a tremendous innings under pressure as she scored a superb 56 not out from 37 balls with five fours and one maximum. This innings allowed Pakistan to score a fighting total of 137-6 on the board. In the second innings, India knew that if they would have batted their full 20 overs the target would be in the bag.

Sadia Iqbal bagged the wickets of Deepti Sharma and Richa Ghosh in the second innings

But that did not happen as the Pakistan bowlers picked up wickets at regular intervals and did not allow the Indian batting to get into the flow. The bowling for Pakistan was led by Nashra Sandhu who picked up three wickets which included the Indian opening duo of Smriti Mandhana and Sabbhineni Meghna which rocked India early.

Nida Dar picked up the big wickets of Jemimah Rodrigues and Harmanpreet Kaur who were in-form players for the Women in Blue coming into this game. Dayalan Hemalatha and Deepti threatened to take the game from Pakistan but were eventually dismissed. Richa Ghosh provided a glimpse of hope for India with a counterattacking 26 from 13 with one four and three sixes but Sadia Iqbal got her out to put Pakistan in front. In the end, India fell short of Pakistan’s target by a mere 13 runs.
