The 25th Match of Caribbean Premier League took place at Providence Stadium in Guyana. Jamaica Tallawahs won the toss and elected to bowl first. Chris Green Started off beautifully by scalping the wickets of Chandrapaul Hemraj and Rahmanullah Gurbaz, who departed for a first ball duck.
The home team found an unlikely hero in Shai Hope, who scored a brilliant 60 from 45 balls with four boundaries and 3 sixes. However, the wickets kept falling at the other end in regular intervals. Shai Hope’s wicket in the 16th over meant Guyana were in trouble at 97 for 6.
At 98-7, When it looked like the home team was staring down the barrel. Odean Smith, who is known for his big hitting, came and smashed a counter attacking as he struck 42 off just 16 balls with 6 sixes in all. Keemo Paul too used the long handle to good effect, scoring a quickfire 24 off 12 balls with 2 fours and 2 sixes.
The Guyana Amazon Warriors ended up with 178-8. The season campaigners in Chris Green and Mohammad Nabi picked up 5 wickets between them and were the pick of the bowlers.
In the second innings, for the Jamaica Tallawahs, Brendon King scored a whirlwind century off just 66 balls with 8 fours and 7 sixes, but it was all in vain as Jamaica fell short of 12 runs in the end. Tahir picked up the wickets of Kennar Lewis and Rovman Powell to bring back the balance in favour of the Guyana Amazon Warriors.
Jamaica Tallawahs’s innings never got the stability it needed. Barring Brendon King, none of the other batters could get a sizable contribution. The Guyana Amazon Warriors put up a great show on the field as well and the bowlers kept the brakes on the scoring rate and did not allow the Jamaica Tallwahs to break free and ended up winning a close encounter by 12 runs.
